Teachers in the Wild
Teachers have a strange superpower: students believe we only exist at school.
So the moment a student sees you at the grocery store, coffee shop, or bookstore, there is usually a brief look of absolute disbelief.
Wait… you buy food?
You drink coffee?
You have weekends?
Meanwhile, the teacher is standing there in sweatpants, holding a coffee, silently hoping nobody asks about homework.
Seeing students outside of school is always a little funny because the roles suddenly disappear. No desks. No bells. No lesson plans. Just two people awkwardly realizing they both exist in the real world.
And of course, students are always excited.
Teachers?
We are excited too.
We are just sometimes excited from a safe distance.
Because Monday morning will be here soon enough.
