Teachers can handle a lot.

They can manage a noisy classroom, fix a broken lesson plan, calm down an upset student, answer three questions at once, and somehow remember who still owes an assignment from two weeks ago.

Then comes the parent email.

It usually begins with something harmless like, “I’ll keep this brief,” followed by several paragraphs, a few suggestions, a full review of classroom procedures, and possibly a comparison to another teacher from last year.

By the end, the teacher has forgotten what “brief” means.

Most educators understand that parents want the best for their children. Still, it can be difficult when teachers are expected to explain every decision, respond immediately, and remain cheerful while reading messages long enough to qualify as a short novel.

The funny part is that teachers usually still reply professionally.

They read the entire email, take a deep breath, remove the first version of their response, and type:

“Thank you for reaching out.”

That may be the most powerful sentence in education.
