When I founded New To Education, the goal was never to build the world's largest tutoring company.
After serving in the United States Marine Corps and later transitioning into education, I had the opportunity to work with students, families, educators, and professionals from a variety of backgrounds. During that time, I saw a common challenge: people were looking for opportunities to learn, grow, connect, and improve their lives, but finding the right resources or support wasn't always easy.
What started as a tutoring-focused initiative became something much larger.
As New To Education has grown, so has our community. We've connected with educators, students, businesses, nonprofits, creators, professionals, and organizations from around the world. Along the way, I've noticed that many people have different ideas about what New To Education actually is.
Some of those ideas are understandable. After all, organizations evolve, and New To Education today looks very different from the platform that first launched.
I wanted to take a moment to address some of the biggest misconceptions about New To Education and explain what we're really trying to build.
Misconception #1: New To Education Is Just a Tutoring Platform
This is by far the most common misconception we encounter.
Tutoring remains an important part of our platform and always will be. It is where our journey began.
However, New To Education has grown into much more than a place where students book lessons.
Today, our platform includes educational content, blogs, newsletters, professional services, affiliate opportunities, business partnerships, creator support, course development, community initiatives, and technology-driven improvements designed to better serve our users.
The more we listened to our community, the more we realized that many people needed more than tutoring. They needed opportunities.
Tutoring may have been the starting point, but it is no longer the entire story.
Misconception #2: New To Education Is Only for Teachers and Tutors
Many people assume our platform is exclusively for educators.
While educators remain at the heart of our community, they are not the only people who contribute to our mission.
Over the years, we've worked with business owners, nonprofit leaders, content creators, consultants, professionals, affiliates, and organizations from many different industries.
Some people join our platform to teach.
Others join to learn.
Some join to build partnerships, share expertise, support causes, create content, or connect with people who share similar goals.
The strength of our community comes from the diversity of people who participate in it.
Misconception #3: New To Education Is Only for Students
Another misconception is that our platform only serves students.
In reality, many adults use our services and resources as well.
Some are developing professional skills. Others are improving language abilities, preparing for interviews, updating resumes, exploring entrepreneurship, or pursuing personal growth.
Learning doesn't end when formal education ends.
Many of life's most valuable lessons happen long after graduation.
We believe opportunities to learn and improve should be available throughout a person's life.
Misconception #4: New To Education Is Only About Education
This may be one of the most important misconceptions to address.
Education is in our name, and education will always remain part of our identity. It is where everything began.
However, over time, I've realized that education is connected to much more than classrooms, textbooks, and academic subjects.
- Education connects to careers.
- Education connects to business.
- Education connects to technology.
- Education connects to personal growth.
- Education connects to community service.
- Education connects to opportunity.
The more our organization grew, the more we understood that helping people learn was only part of the equation. Helping people create opportunities for themselves and others was equally important.
Today, New To Education is not simply about education.
It is about helping people move forward.
Misconception #5: New To Education Is a Small Local Company
Because New To Education was founded in Japan and started as a small organization, some people assume our reach is limited.
The reality is that our community has always been international.
Our educators, affiliates, businesses, organizations, and users come from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds. One of the most rewarding aspects of building this platform has been seeing people from around the world connect through shared goals and interests.
Our vision has never been limited by geography.
Opportunity should not depend on where someone happens to live.
Misconception #6: The Platform Is Finished
If there is one thing I've learned as a founder, it's that growth never truly stops.
Some people see the platform as it exists today and assume that what they see is the final version.
The reality is quite different.
We continue to improve systems, test ideas, strengthen partnerships, develop new features, and explore ways to better support our community.
The New To Education of today looks very different from the organization that first launched.
I fully expect it to continue evolving for years to come.
Growth requires adaptation, and adaptation requires a willingness to keep learning.
Misconception #7: We Already Know Exactly What New To Education Will Become
This may surprise some people, but we do not have every detail of the future mapped out.
We know our mission.
We know our values.
We know the impact we hope to make.
But we are constantly learning from the people who use our platform.
Some of our best ideas have come directly from conversations with tutors, students, affiliates, businesses, organizations, and members of our community.
The future of New To Education will not be shaped solely by my vision.
It will be shaped by the people who continue helping us build it.
While I cannot tell you exactly what New To Education will look like ten years from now, I can tell you that we will continue listening, learning, and evolving.
What These Misconceptions Have Taught Us
One lesson I've learned throughout this journey is that misconceptions are not necessarily negative.
Often, they reveal where communication can improve.
They show us where our organization has evolved faster than public perception.
They remind us that growth requires transparency, clarity, and consistency.
Most importantly, they encourage us to continue listening to the people we serve.
Every conversation helps us better understand our community and better define the future we are building together.
Looking Ahead
When I first launched New To Education, I never imagined all the directions it would eventually take.
What began as a tutoring-focused initiative has grown into a platform centered around learning, opportunity, community, and growth.
As we move forward, we will continue exploring new ideas, improving existing services, embracing technology, strengthening partnerships, and creating opportunities for people from all walks of life.
The platform may evolve.
The services may expand.
New opportunities will emerge.
But one thing will remain unchanged.
Our mission is to help people learn, grow, connect, and create opportunities for themselves and for others.
Education is where we started.
