If you've ever tried juggling tutoring sessions, searching for learning resources, messaging tutors, keeping track of bookings, and managing everything across multiple websites, you know how quickly it can become overwhelming.
That was one of the biggest questions we asked ourselves when we began designing the NewToEd mobile application.
Could we bring everything together into one place without making it feel complicated?
Over the past several months, our development team has been working toward answering that question. While the application is still actively being developed, we've reached a point where we're excited to begin sharing our progress.
The screenshots throughout this article provide an early look at where the platform stands today. Some features are already well developed, while others will continue evolving before the official release. Rather than waiting until everything is finished, we wanted to bring our community along for the journey and share how the application is taking shape.
Screens 1–6: Building a Simple First Experience
First impressions matter.
When someone opens the application for the first time, we wanted the experience to feel welcoming rather than overwhelming. Instead of immediately presenting dozens of menus and options, the app gradually introduces users to the platform before asking how they'd like to use it.
Whether you're joining as a student, tutor, parent, business, affiliate, or simply exploring, the application adjusts to your role from the very beginning.
One design decision we kept returning to throughout development was simplicity. During the design process, several screens were redesigned or combined to reduce unnecessary navigation. The goal wasn't to include every possible feature on the homepage it was to make sure users could accomplish what they needed without wondering where to tap next.
The home dashboard reflects that philosophy by placing the most common actions front and center, including tutor search, bookings, webinars, courses, and the NU AI Assistant.
Screens 7–10: Finding the Right Tutor
Finding the right tutor shouldn't feel like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Every student has different learning goals, teaching preferences, schedules, and budgets, so we wanted tutor discovery to feel both flexible and straightforward.
Users can browse tutors using filters such as subject, language, lesson type, and pricing. Each tutor profile highlights important information including qualifications, experience, student reviews, lesson pricing, and availability before a booking is ever made.
Once a tutor has been selected, the booking process guides users through choosing the lesson type, selecting an available date and time, and confirming the reservation with only a few steps.
One area we spent a surprising amount of time refining was the booking flow itself. Small adjustments such as reducing unnecessary screens and making important information easier to find can make the difference between a frustrating experience and one that feels effortless.
Screens 11–15: Booking, Payments, and Communication
Learning doesn't begin when the lesson starts it begins with everything leading up to it.
After a booking has been made, students can securely complete payment, receive an instant confirmation, and communicate directly with their tutor through the integrated messaging system.
Keeping these features inside the application means users don't have to switch between different platforms or applications just to prepare for a lesson.
One feature still under development is our residency verification process for approved face-to-face tutoring within Japan. Although this system isn't yet complete, it represents one of several ways we're working to support both online and in-person learning safely and responsibly.
Screens 16–20: Learning Beyond Live Lessons
NewToEd has always been about more than tutoring.
While live lessons remain one of the platform's core services, many learners also enjoy studying independently. That's why the mobile application has been designed to include much more than tutor bookings.
Users will be able to browse educational blogs, online courses, eBooks, newsletters, and other digital learning materials all from within the same application.
Rather than separating learning into different websites or services, we're building an ecosystem where students can move naturally between live instruction and self-paced learning.
Subscription plans will also provide additional value for learners who use the platform regularly, offering expanded access to educational resources and premium features.
Meet NU: Our AI Assistant
One feature we're particularly excited about is NU, our built-in AI assistant.
Interestingly, NU didn't begin as an ambitious artificial intelligence project. It started with a much simpler question.
How can users receive help without searching through menus or waiting for customer support?
That idea evolved into NU.
The assistant is being developed to answer common questions, help users locate tutors, navigate bookings, explain platform features, and connect users with additional support whenever needed.
As development continues, NU will continue expanding its capabilities alongside the rest of the platform.
Screens 21–29: Built for Tutors Too
Although many of the screenshots focus on students, educators have always been equally important to the platform.
Tutors will have access to their own professional dashboard where they can manage their profile, update availability, publish educational content, upload courses, manage bookings, and communicate with students.
Our objective wasn't simply to create another tutoring marketplace.
We wanted to build tools that help educators spend less time managing administrative tasks and more time doing what they enjoy most teaching.
As NewToEd grows, these tutor tools will continue expanding alongside additional resources for businesses and organizations.
Why We're Sharing an Early Preview
Software development is an ongoing process.
Every week brings new ideas, improvements, revisions, and occasionally features that get completely redesigned after testing. That's simply part of building something that people will use every day.
Instead of waiting until every feature is complete, we wanted to begin sharing our progress with the community that's supported NewToEd from the beginning.
Your feedback helps shape what comes next.
Some of the screens shown today may continue evolving before launch, while entirely new features will be introduced over the coming months. Future updates will include additional AI capabilities, expanded subscription options, enhanced analytics, new educational resources, and more tools designed to support learners, tutors, families, and organizations around the world.
Looking Ahead
Seeing these screens come together has been exciting for our entire team because they represent much more than a collection of user interfaces. They represent the direction we're heading as a company.
We're building a platform that brings tutoring, educational resources, digital content, AI assistance, and professional teaching tools into a single experience designed to make learning more accessible and convenient.
There's still plenty left to build, and we're looking forward to sharing that journey with you.
Thank you for continuing to support NewToEd as we move closer to the next stage of development. We hope you've enjoyed this first look at the mobile application, and we can't wait to share what's coming next.
