How Exploring the World Led Me to Teaching Japanese

Hello! My name is Tomoaki Higashimoto, and I’m from Japan.

My interest in other countries started when I was in junior high school. After graduating, I had the opportunity to visit Singapore for a week, and that experience completely changed how I saw the world. I became fascinated by different cultures, languages, and ways of life. Because of that experience, I chose to study English in high school and later majored in International Studies at Ryukoku University.

During my second year at university, I studied abroad at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles for nearly six months. Living overseas allowed me to meet people from many different backgrounds and helped me gain a broader perspective on the world. After returning to Japan, I completed a one-month internship as a Japanese language teacher at Freyberg High School in New Zealand. There, I taught Japanese language and culture, supported students in the classroom, and discovered how rewarding it was to help others learn. That experience inspired me to continue pursuing education and language teaching.

Travel has remained one of my biggest passions. I’ve been fortunate to visit countries such as Egypt, Mexico, Turkey, Vietnam, and many others. Every trip has taught me something new and reinforced my belief that language is one of the best ways to connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

As a native Japanese speaker, I enjoy helping students improve their pronunciation, conversation skills, and confidence in Japanese. My goal is to create lessons that are relaxed, engaging, and tailored to each student's needs. I also enjoy sharing insights about Japanese culture, daily life, and travel experiences, making each lesson both educational and enjoyable.

Outside of teaching, I love traveling, meeting new people, exploring different cultures, and continuing to learn from the world around me. These experiences help me better understand the challenges language learners face and allow me to support my students with patience and understanding.

Whether you're learning Japanese for travel, work, study, or personal interest, I would be happy to help you reach your goals. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your Japanese learning journey.
